Gao began studying Chinese medicine with masters in China in the 1960s and completed apprenticeships with respected Chinese herbalists in Shanxi and Hunan provinces. His formal education included study at the Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Southwest University, followed by additional clinical study and work at institutions in Beijing and elsewhere in China.
Today, he practices in Connecticut as a licensed acupuncturist and holds the Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Dipl. O.M.) credential.
